It’s official!

@chris Overhead a loud discussion today where folks were saying they’re voting for Conservatives because “otherwise I’d have to vote for NDP” I’m pretty worried about this one
-
@dx the only silver lining to this seeming two way race is the Greens seem completely non existent. So hopefully they pull very few votes away from the NDP because certainly no one with an environmental outlook will vote BCCP

Keep an eye on Ladysmith-Oceanside where I am.
Its a weiiiiird mix and basically a coinflip.
Incumbent is IND, elected as NDP but kicked out of caucus for being a garbage employer to his mla office staff.
BCU candidiate chose to run as IND as well.
So we have the big two, two notable independants, and the greens.

Nothing ciminal. No assault or anything.
Just a shit boss and his *very* unionised staff filed grievences, and the NDP dont eff with that.
As "a guy who answers constituent emails" hes not a bad politician honestly. But it really hammers home my presonal truism that pre politics resumes are super important and "small busines owner" is one hell of a red flag.

@Keicowku @dx sounds like it’ll be a fun campaign at least! Kind of the opposite of Mid Island Pacific Rim. Greens haven’t announced anyone. Former B.C. United hasn’t confirmed if he will run. Conservative is former Bulldogs hockey coach though, so he will have some pull there but the NDP Minister incumbent is also quite popular.

@chris @dx Walker has been doing A LOT of local comminity PR in the last year, getting his name more known rather than the party logo. Effort very noted.
And because the new riging stops at Nanoose Bay, and swoops to Ladysmith ignoring Lantsville which are now part of North Nanaimo, its a different mix now.
As I said. Coinflip.

I am in #CowichanValley as of 2 years ago, and still learning what the politics might be. Obviously Furstenau's seat has been here, but I am wondering how best to explore who are active in the local political scene, who a local freelance journo should be getting to know/watching.

The Tyee does good work. And Chek news is the "big" local news network.
I mostly just stuff I found in old wikipedia election data.
Google your candidates work history and the published party platform. Dont rely on manicured election soundbites by themselves.
And after the votes are tallied and you know who your mla is, indulge your inner "cranky old person" and send them lengthy emails at 5am on a sunday. I did. Got decent answers too.
