Still looking for a text macro expander on a per-app basis.
TextExpander is out because it’s all cloud-based now. Nope. Not having that.
Xcode won’t expand in comments, which is my primary use case.
frustrating

oh, of course textexpander is now web-based and has a crappy UI. They got a 41 million dollar VC investment.
Everything they touch turns to shit.
-
Also, why the hell does an indie with one app need a 41 million dollar investment?!?
It’s a $3.33/month subscription
They would need a million monthly subscribers to make that back in a year. With no expenses.
I guess it’s now also windows and web and blah.

@sanguish The moment TextExpander… expanded its scope to become something more than just fast and convenient text snippet expansion (and become much worse in the process, as you can see), I abandoned ship.
I found a great alternative that works just like good old TextExpander used to work — Rocket Typist: https://witt-software.com/rockettypist/

@morrick it doesn’t look like you can restrict that on a per-app basis. Can you?
-
@sanguish I had to take a look because the snippets I need expanded are usually system-wide. It seems that in the app’s Settings you can create an exclusion list (“Never expand abbreviations in one of these applications:”), but I’ve also seen that you can create separate folders of snippets and each folder has its own settings. Looking into these settings, it would appear that you can set the snippets contained in that folder to expand in certain applications. Not 100% sure.
