@chris icymi -- helpful perspective here I thought, on safety as a wedge

If we're busy being afraid, less likely to note and object to adverse impacts of things like ... unleashing the private sector -

@chris Where the hell does this "1 out of 2 youth want to leave BC" thing come from that Rustad keeps repeating?
Apparently a poll from Mario Canseco at Research Co on Aug 30. Canseco was w Insights West & before that Angus Reid -
No idea.
It is not a question that can be asked of people under age 25, anyway. The cognitive development is such they *all* want to go away.
It's looney tunes pseudo science, imo.

@chris I rather liked Eby's answer there about decrim - it seemed honest.
We were desperate to try anything that could work so we tried decrim to allow people the security of asking for help w/o being busted but instead it resulted in people doing drugs everywhere. It didn't work so we pivoted. -
@Amgine @chris OMG - it's from August *2022*.

@AlisonCreekside I agree. Others might think it was his weakest moment because it was a perceived 'mistake’ that he admitted to, but I thought he came across as very honest about trying something that everyone said was worth a try, and it just not working and they had to try something else.

@chris I'm having a real hard time with Eby saying he believes in science yet allowed removal of mask mandates to happen on his watch & that goes against science. It was caving to corporate interests & conservatives driven anti-science paranoia propaganda.

@chris @Amgine Sonia was the only one who didn't act immaturely with attacks being the focus. It's easy to attack an opponent. It's harder to focus on policy & discuss actual progressive changes that help our communities & citizens. She's also the only BC leader who was elected & not given leadership by only insiders. Eby & Rustad were never democratically elected.

@chris Dude never blinked on the multiple times he said he'd end UNDRIP implementation. Straight up bigoted racist. Not fit to govern.

@chris I don't think it was weak on Eby's part at all.
Forgetting party politics and loyalties, I think people who mostly don't follow politics but might tune in for a few minutes of the debate are going to be most swayed by someone who talks like an actual human being and not the rehearsed sum total of party brass zombie talking points.
Sonia aces that. I'll bet a lot of tv viewers won't remember what she said but will just have the overall impression of kinda liking her. -

@PhoenixSerenity I am not surprised it comes from him, but what has really saddened me lately is I heard the same kind of rhetoric from a friend who I thought was understanding of how far we have come. He whispered his own fear that Indigenous people would come for settlers.
I was left speechless. I still can't process how he rationally came to that conclusion and can only assume it is because of hours upon hours of being exposed to racist bullshit on Facebook, Twitter, or wherever.

@chris I think Adam Olsen nailed it with nicknaming him - Reckless Rustad.

@AlisonCreekside I agree. Unfortunately Eby is not the best presenting person... a little forgettable. I think Sonia made a good impression. I think Rustad comes across as a barely functional racist grandpa…
