"The Fediverse is not a single place. The Fediverse is not a single community. The Fediverse does not have a single set of norms, nor even a few. Thinking about the Fediverse as anything other than a very large and complex network of users and groups which are extremely diverse in practice, population, and technology guarantees that you will be incorrect. It's a lesson I learned the hard way several times.
Anyone who tells you that anything is settled and similar across "the Fediverse", in any direction - normative, demographic, social, even technical - is either lying or catastrophically ill-informed."
