Edit Edit: since this post, we’ve got a better fix. some things are still unreliable, like issuing new SSL certs for expired ones on custom domains sometimes fails, and the service is still generally slow, but we’ll be on a new network soon and new servers and it’ll then work better again

Edit: The fix I tried using stopped working. The instability will continue until the server’s faulty network is fixed. Nothing more I can do, it’s the hosting. I’m so, so, so sorry

I’m sorry to anyone whos had issues with pages.gay just randomly erroring on user pages. The service kept having issues requesting repositories from git.gay due the network provided by our hosting being broken, and it would just fail sometimes doing that and end up showing visitors a misleading error.

It really breaks my heart for any of the services i make to be unreliable for people, when my main goal with these is for them to be a public good. and it Especially sucks when the cause of the problem is the server itself being misconfigured by the hosting provider in ways only they can fix.

I’ve asked the server host to bring our services to their newer network that won’t have these problems. That migration will happen very soon (I haven’t been given a time yet), and once it happens there will be no change at all for users besides more reliability and performance. That migration should also have zero downtime, so don’t worry.

In the meantime, I’ve implemented a bodge that should fix at least one problem in pages.gay’s servers caused by the current faulty network. This should fix the unreliability most cases, but it’s a bodge to work around the underlying network problem rather than fixing the root cause (which the new network will), but in the meantime this works just fine.

Again, apologies. I’m doing the best that I can with the little resources I have, and there’s a lot that’s just out of my hands right now. Thank you so much for your understanding!
