In the past month my kids and I have played (on all the original *never-repaired* hardware):

@zachleat we still love our Wii. The Switch has come close to capturing the magic but it’s still missing something I can’t quite place.

@ArpComics the Wii controllers are way more party game friendly and I don’t really know why either

@zachleat Not only that, but their track record for backward-compatibility is also great. If they didn't change formats so often I'm sure they'd do even better on that aspect. (though it is quite profitable to re-release )

@chriskirknielsen 100% — I have a few GameCube games that I play on the Wii! The Wii has GameCube controller ports on it, stock! 🤯

@zachleat That is pretty wild! Doesn't the Switch also have a way to use the GC controller? I think it needs some adapter but still pretty good way to avoid buying a bunch of new peripherals when you get a new console. Gotta hand(held) it to Nintendo.

@chriskirknielsen I don’t know! I wouldn’t be surprised!

@zachleat maybe I’m nostalgic for the time one of my kids cracked the TV screen with a Wii controller, the Switch thingies would take a lot more force

@zachleat this has made me realise that when it releases, the Wii will be closer in age to the Super Nintendo than the Switch 2
