ALWAYS try dialing 9-1-1 EVERY TIME.
There is NEVER an instance where this makes sense.

If the original post takes off widely again, maybe I'll need to create short YouTube video and put it on the official BC Search and Rescue AdventureSmart channel so people can easily link to it and it will hopefully be believed as it's coming from an official source.

@Hiker_Scott BTW, when outside of cellular coverage, a phone will consume more power trying to find a network at different frequencies etc. So when you know you are outside of coverage, it is best to put the phone in "airplane mode" and verify the iPhone doesn't turn it off overnight.
When in weak coverage, it between rock and hard place: leaving cellular on consumes battery, but might also get you emergency alerts.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi should always be off.
