British Columbia Provincial Polling:
-
@gemelliz Gotta love that vote split between a party some of whose candidates think vaccines turn you into a magnet and a party leader who supported Max Bernier in the CPC leadership race.
-
WHAT is going on in BC???
#Poilivere has spent A LOT of money campaigning #BC .. but.. seriouslyBC Conservative leader John Rustad =
-- 5G cell towers are a "genocidal weapon" that spread COVID-19
-- credit cards and microchips will summon the antichrist
-- supports the #Ottawa occupation
--denies climate change
--Jordan Peterson groupie
-- Anti-this, Anti-that -
@gemelliz @AlisonCreekside
Fascinating. Reading up more on this Rustad guy now.First thing I saw was that he was kicked out of the Liberals for denying the climate change effects of carbon dioxide emissions?
I see some of the wilder claims are from his candidates but he brushed aside the 5G genocide by complaining about "cancel culture" apparently lol and still stands behind that candidate even though she's completely bonkers.
BC is in trouble.
-
@gemelliz Well the BC NDP is a lot like the fed Libs - you can have some quite nice things in exchange for ignoring rampant resource extraction.
The BC Libs/United was full of fed Cons last time they were in power - like a couple of dozen of them in key positions.
The BC Cons were non-existent for decades until this year bc nuts.
The BC Greens are a great party that thanks to FPtP and strategic voting can't get above 3 seats.

@ksawatsky @gemelliz Last year Rustad was a keynote at a conference in Victoria "in recognition of the 2022 freedom convoy" that featured convoy defendant Chris Barber, convoyer Dan Bulford, some folks from RebelNews & Western Standard, Brian Peckford, perpetual litigant lawyer John Carpay, and the usual assortment of anti-vax you-will-eat-bugs-and-like-it anti WEF people.
It was a corker. -
@AlisonCreekside Sigh. Could it be because so many Albertans have decamped westward ?
-
@gemelliz The south coast certainly likes to think so but why do you think Danielle Smith once proposed years ago that northern/BC Interior join AB & Sask in forming the Buffalo State?
-
@AlisonCreekside @gemelliz Because she knows landlocked separatist Alberta is a non-starter

@gemelliz @AlisonCreekside it is not nearly that complicated. I firmly believe it is 99% a case of voters/respondents of polls not know who “BC United” is, but know what a “Conservative” is. It is essentially telling us what we already knew about the “BC Liberal” voting bloc.

@gemelliz while I have no doubt the BC Conservatives will take a bunch of seats, I think this election is utterly unpredictable by any pollster. There is too much voter confusion over the BC United and Conservatives. People could end up voting purely for the names they know regardless the party, which would work heavily in the BCU favour. Or they could completely reject them, or reject Rustad, or protest Eby’s NDP.
It is a complete crapshoot imo.

@chris Thanks for your west coast observations. October is going to be interesting
"no doubt the BC Conservatives will take a bunch of seats"
BC has fallen hard for the Cons axe the tax rhetoric & PP's claims that Trudeau has “legalized hard drugs” in British Columbia.
No doubt Rustad is riding PP's coat tails. -
@gemelliz I don't think it's just BC, I think there is a very large rural and suburban vs urban divide that has gotten much worse across Canada since the pandemic and combine that with the tiredness of the Trudeau gov and it will work out poorly, but not catastrophically, for the BCNDP. They are lucky the right is so split or they would be going down the same as Trudeau's Liberals

It wouldn't be landlocked if it becomes the northern part of "Diagolon" -
@chris @echanda
I guess when the BC Libs were deciding on a name change, they thought United Conservative Party of BC was a bit too on the nose.
