I voted "rising", but this might just be because more people are noticing my bots.

@smallcircles It seems to me that people are engaged but on certain topics like bluesky or the preparing for the next US president. I am seeing less engagement on my posts about random topics that interest me. It is hard for me to know if it is because people are moving to bluesky or if they are just focused on other things. I am curious about what other people are experiencing.

@davidruffner @smallcircles Maybe just me, but half the people I follow seem to have quit Mastodon permanently, and only a couple of the rest are posting regularly.
It feels really hard to find posts on topics I'm interested in on Mastodon now, unless it's about Linux or old computers.

@kohan @smallcircles I think it is similar for me. It is kind of sad right? I know for me, I want to explore my interests and be part of the conversation around those interests.
I still am meeting and following interesting people through Mastodon, so I have plenty of toots to read, but I do miss the people that left.

@kohan @davidruffner @smallcircles check if can find more people relevant to your interests using something like MastoVue

> It feels really hard to find posts on topics I'm interested in on Mastodon now, unless it's about Linux or old computersI suspect this may be related to the insane data retention defaults that were rolled out in a recent Mastodon release;
Image fetching - is DOFV (Download on First View) AP-compliant?
Iβm told that itβs inherent to ActivityPub that if an account someone using my server follows posts an image, my server goes and actively downloads it and stores it in its local storage. Is this correct? Because except iβ¦
SocialHub (socialhub.activitypub.rocks)
IMHO Mastodon needs to fix this in a future release. But in the meantime, admins can mitigate it at their end as @lightweight did for us;
Data retention on mastodon.nzoss.nz
The new data retention defaults introduced in Mastodon 4.x are totally whacky, for reasons I described in detail in recent comments on SocialHub. One problem it creates is with search, because Mastodon can only search wiβ¦

@smallcircles
I tend to find how much engagement I get on my posts is directly proportional to the effort I put into my discussions with the people who comment on them. Normally I try to read all comments and reply to most of them, or at least favourite them.If I get overwhelmed (as I am at the moment), I can stop replying for a while and number go down. Which works quite well for me ; )
