i don't know what was the hitting rock bottom - yesterday's mess or today's realisation that i'm actually quite prepared to jump back 15 years in my career and write php again.
-
yes, yes, believe me i know what a terrible language it is. or i'm told was, but i'm a bit sceptical about that.
but you have to understand, from my vantage point, *all programming languages are shit*. and of the ones people are actually using, it's possibly the one least likely to make me do regrettable things.

@gsuberland i bet i don't love the types it has
-
@dysfun @gsuberland course, the question is never "what new features has the language picked up in the last couple decades?" but "exactly how dusty is the PHP version they're using?"
But yah, rent is rent and at least all the most common PHP problems have been solved many times over.
-
@randomgeek @gsuberland i would expect by now that most of my recurring pain points have been minimised in new code.

@dysfun @gsuberland I'm not gonna say it's an unfettered delight or anything, but PHP 2024 is a long ways from PHP 2014. And barely recognizable from PHP 2009.
