Hey #WordPress friends.
Since disabling JetPack, my blog's sitemaps haven't been updating.Anyone know of a way to restore the plain WP sitemap functionality without using a plugin?
More details at https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/427313/generate-sitemap-after-removing-jetpack
Rampant speculation welcome, because I'm all out of ideas!
-
@Edent this often happens due to either caching or setting on the host. Difficult to sort out as well as you are finding
-
@3dcandy I've flushed the cache - which host setting should I be looking at?
-
@Edent it is buried way down in the nginx or apache (webserver) settings. also check the htaccess files as they sometimes get changed
-
@3dcandy what specifically should I be looking for? I can't see anything in .htaccess relating to site maps.
-
@Edent I'm just checking! - and as per usual all the main sites I admin have yoast installed which ruins the sitemap function. Sorry I can't remember exactly how I fixed it
-
According to this WP should just generate a sitemap automatically.

I can't test on the WP blog I run because we use Yoast which hijacks the URL. But on your blog /wp-sitemap.xml returns a 404.
In true web dev style I'm going to suggest purge your caches / could be a DNS issue ...

@iamdavidobrien are you saying you can't see https://shkspr.mobi/blog/wp-sitemap.xml ?

Oh, hang on – I do now.
Was getting a big fat 404 earlier.
