The "Follow" button in those new contact cards doesn't indicate if someone's account is locked so you don't know if you should check their profile for if they accept followers or what conditions they have.

I'll ask again: Does anybody designing #Mastodon actually use Mastodon??? That's such a rude design :angry_laugh:

These growth-orientated designs can honestly fuck off. Get to know the people around you first, instead of "the more the numbers go up, the more social media it is"

@Shrigglepuss it's the difference between wanting to be part of a community and wanting an audience.
Some folks just want an audience and it shows.

Imagine having more boundaries and consent features in Mastodon instead of whatever fucking mess this is! Imagine the social spaces we could build!
-
Idea: The "Follow" button on locked accounts should have two options for a user to set: "Strictly no follow requests welcome", and "Follow requests welcome after they've read a lil box of text I wrote, and clicked on Follow in that too"
-
Like how fucking hard is it to think about consent features in social media? Come onnnn. I literally just pulled that idea out of my arse
-
@Shrigglepuss Yeah but it's easy to think of consent-based ideas when you actually value consent and that's part of your whole life! You show off. How are people who resent others' boundaries and avoid models of good behavior whenever they can supposed to compete on these kinds of terms!

The funny thing is they will get their growth and audiences they want by designing for the most marjonalized and the tech bros don't even have to use all these community and safety features. They can have open everything and open accounts and open RSS feeds and unrestricted interactions if they want to have them by designing for the most marjonalized. They can still control how audience focused they want their accounts to be because things will be *opt in!* They get their audience, we get our community. It baffles me how nobody on the dev team understands this. @bright_helpings @Shrigglepuss
