Recognizing that it's a banal, obvious thought, but regardless of how folks who live in Japan feel about the state of infrastructure, it's absolutely astounding to see a system so large, and so diverse, function so well in comparison to similar systems in the US.
And not having visited for so long, it once again is so obvious why Tokyo and its environs were such influences on Gibson, Scott, et al when envisioning the metropolitan life of "the future”.

@dnanian also during the 80s they were having a HUUUUGE boom (which was a bubble) but everyone really thought Japan would rule the world economically through technology.
