Uh-oh. The US 5th Circuit Court has ruled against laws that allow for counting mail-in ballots if they were mailed before but received after election day.

A conservative appeals court sided with Republicans in ruling against a Mississippi law that allows election officials to count mail ballots that are postmarked by Election Day but arrive after it.

Nothing's final yet -- things have been sent back to a lower court, and will no doubt be appealed -- but it's a reminder that IF YOU'RE VOTING BY MAIL, SEND YOUR BALLOT BACK AS SOON AS YOU CAN. An authorized ballot drop-box may be a better choice than trusting the post office.
