Read Trump's words at your own risk.

@wdlindsy I can't watch anything with Trump speaking with our kid in the room because of the screaming that happens. For context, we're canadian, our kid is an anarchist, thinks the US is largely a failed state and last night's scream was "YOU CAN'T MAKE THE FED DO ANYTHING YOU FUCKING COCKWOMBLE!".

@camerondotca I suspect you're not alone. I was with my niece's family in Connecticut in May, and happened to mention Trump while I was there. When I did so, her 6-year-old son informed me, "We don't mention that name in this household."

@wdlindsy to be fair our kid is 21, and HIGHLY political. But we had the same sort of reaction with Gerry Brownlee when we lived in Christchurch.

@camerondotca Understood. My point in mentioning my niece's young so was just to say that children — of whatever age — definitely hear what their parents are saying about political matters, and respond accordingly. Sounds like you've raised a promising young man!

@wdlindsy One of our rules is that they were to never parrot what we thought and were to look stuff up to form their own opinions. I expressed.. erm.. delight upon the death of Thatcher... they parroted. I told them no. The next morning on the way to the bathroom I came across them, very early in the AM. Me: what you doing Them (from in front of laptop): looking at the wikipedia on Thatcher Me: as one does Them: man she hated the Scottish eh?

@camerondotca Very good parenting. Sounds much like the approach I took in the classroom to challenge students to develop critical thinking skills.

@camerondotca Sorry I misgendered your child! And I can think of no reason at all that led me to jump to the conclusion that you were speaking of a son — except my own sloppy reading, which caused me not to see that you never mentioned a gender!
