It has, over time, become harder and harder for me to advocate for the "fediverse" as it exists today.

It took me quite some time searching through link-rotted toot history to find this toot by @cwebber dating from November 2022:
Christine Lemmer-Webber (@[email protected])
at some point maybe it would be worth doing a fediverse thread breakdown of the ideas in ocappub https://gitlab.com/spritely/ocappub/blob/master/README.org and how the work has continued over at @spritelyinst because everything I wrote in 2019 is now super, incredibly relevant (I am anticipating a crash/collapse of the fediverse in its current form at a not too distant future; hopefully we'll have more answers ready by then, but this is a multi-year project)
the Octodon (octodon.social)
And in it the text:
> (I am anticipating a crash/collapse of the fediverse in its current form at a not too distant future; hopefully we'll have more answers ready by then, but this is a multi-year project)
I would be curious to hear Christine's current thoughts on this and in light of todays 'state of things'.

My reply-check only found @[email protected] comment missing from the thread.

@smallcircles genuinely curious what method you use to search through your old posts. I’ve not found a reliable way to do it.

@erlend my query in this case was "@ cwebber in:library" because I did not know any word that should be in the toot. And then just scrolling deeper into history until I found it.

@smallcircles @hrefna @jdp23 @cigitalgem @cwebber
just read that entire article again about ocappub. i remember reading it around that time of late2022/early 2023 somewhere, but things fully click now i feel, especially regarding the nation-state-ification
'fun' to see how well all the observations by Christine have held up

Side note: I've referred back to @cwebber's OcapPub paper numerous times and been very inspired by it for my own work in this space.

Yeah, an excellent paper, and Christine's work at Spritely continues to impress!

@laurenshof @hrefna @greg @smallcircles @jdp23 if anyone here uses Pixelfed then you'll know that missing replies are even worse there. Not a priority to address it at all
Since you're all more knowledgeable on the spec, can this activitypub issue be fixed at all?

The answer to that is complicated.
The short answer is that this is an imminently solvable problem. Technically.
The reality is that to get us there we have to get multiple projects, all of which have their own politics and constraints and are currently doing things in different ways, to agree on and implement the solution based almost entirely on volunteer time.
So in theory it is easy. In practice it is _quite_ difficult.

And, the missing posts problem isn't as bad for people on well-connected instances, and most projects have flagship instances that are well-connected -- .social is the poster child here. So there's less personal incentive for project leads to prioritize it.
At the end of FediForum a bunch of attendees tweeted on a hashtag so it was an interesting (although messy) natural experiment - https://infosec.exchange/@thenexusofprivacy/113137609072580831
