From a low carbon computing perspective, this is extremely disappointing:

"the recent Mastodon upgrade has caused a significant amount of performance degradation, and I think the only way to really solve it is going to be to throw a lot of money into hardware"

So basically, Mastodon is becoming so much of a resource hog that people need to upgrader their hardware? I think that is unacceptable.
