Speaking of soup, one time I was named ‘soup di di’ by the kids I worked with in India.

@mountdiscovery hahaha cutting chai
-
@msbellows yes, soo instead of one large bowl of soup they give you two smaller bowls of soup but charge you for one
-
Also reminded of how a smaller portion of tea is a ‘cutting chai’, like a chai you ‘cut’ in two
-
@skinnylatte I have had a one by two soup with my dad while waiting for our takeaway order for so many years!
And one by two coffee with my friends when we don't want the full caffeine kick. -
My friend always says ‘I will sit on his head’ (to make someone work faster, or turn in something late)
But that’s not as fun as all the people who have ‘passed out’ (graduated) from various schools. Hundreds of people passing out, all at once

@Theorem_Poem so fun

@skinnylatte That's nice! The idea of eating less than a full portion is so unamerican!
-
@msbellows not to mention that a one portion soup in India is like, 1/3 a full portion in America, so it’s really 1 by 6 probably

@[email protected] a cortado comes from "to cut", the origins are slightly different but not unrelated

@skinnylatte I don't know much about Indian soup but I do love Thai tom kha gai soup. If only my wife loved spicy foods too so I could share it with her. It actually goes further, she just doesn't like hot liquid food of any sort, not even tea or coffee - except hot chocolate maybe
However I've long since embraced the America way of taking left overs of anything to-go and soup is perfect for that. I feel that in other cultures they bias to right sizing portions in the first place.
