dair-community.social absolutely belongs on such a list. If you block it, you are an utter piece of shit.

@dalias i think tech.lgbt overreacted, though as i said last night as an indigenous jew who grew up in bible country, the implication that AIPAC, an organization that is mostly funded and supported by batshit evangelicals who only care about supporting Israel as a means to their own armageddon fantasy was actually some sort of diaspora-endorsed entity kinda hurt.
however, i don't think that is what timnit was intending to mean by her comment though, and saw it more of a "why do these batshit people get a pass on their advocacy for 10xing the death toll in gaza when others with similar agendas don't" type post

@ariadne I think your first para is missing a phrase or something.

@[email protected] there has been also another hot take recently from someone over dair-community peddling the usual "transfems nazi phase" narrative, so what you're mentioning is not an isolated case

@dalias i rewrote it a little bit to make it more clear

Erin 💽✨replied to Ariadne Conill 🐰:therian: on last edited by@ariadne @dalias honestly, as with most of the times these things come up, the original post is problematic but not that bad; the greater problem is the framing of criticism as disingenuous and entirely invalid.
The patterns of inter-community schisms like these are universal across social networks and the world in general -

@erincandescent @dalias right, exactly. that's why i went "that take is unfortunate", shrugged and moved on.

@ariadne @dalias your point is well taken overall, but AIPAC wasn't founded by evangelicals, it was in fact founded by Israeli lobbyists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIPAC . (You may be thinking of Christians United for Israel?)
That's not to say AIPAC is completely endorsed by the diaspora, because the diaspora is definitely very diverse in its opinions on Israel. (And thankfully, younger Jewish folks in the diaspora are much more likely to be anti-Zionist.) But AIPAC is not a Christian organization.

@ariadne @dalias As i say, definitely not quibbling with your overall point! Just wanted to clarify on the history there, not least because AIPAC should, frankly, be fucking forced to register as an agent operating on behalf of a foreign government. They are explicitly serving the interests of Israel even when it is at the expense of American interests.

@ariadne @dalias (A lot of diasporic Jewish support of Israel is also because Israel spends a lot of money and effort on propagandizing diaspora Jews specifically, too, via things like Birthright and that stupid colonizer tree-planting bullshit. As those things get exposed more and more as propaganda, i have a lot of hope that more diasporic Jewish folks will realize what they've inadvertently bought into.)
