Apparently Republicans are losing their minds today about the fact that women have the right to vote for whomever they choose.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin hum.. Are you sure about that coffee statement
-
@mastodonmigration sorry maybe it was a joke, I'm not getting those well these days
-
Oh yes. Just got back from France and Spain, and the one thing that you folks need to figure out is how to make a good cup of coffee. Not an espresso, or Americano mind you, a proper cup of Java. But otherwise, you rock!
-
@mastodonmigration I mean.. For me the espresso is the proper coffee.. Everything else is diluted!

The comments are always the best. They really have to twist their logic up in knots for this one.
But, on the serious side, the comments demonstrate the ways in which men justify their misogyny, and the way that some women are bamboozled into acting against their interests.

@mastodonmigration. I did my time in a marriage where this would have been pretty close to the truth. Long time ago, but I have a long memory. @CharJTF @KamalaHarrisWin

Very sorry. That must have sucked. Glad you got out of there. Feel like many women are learning that they might be better off without this kind of BS. And, of course, this is another thing that these insecure men are triggered by. Women are killing it these days.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin It's a really good ad.
-
I agree it's a very effective ad.
But it's disturbing to me, that this is something that needs saying. That people can vote however they wish. And yes, people means any people. Yes, including women married to a MAGA controlling-type man (not to stereotype, but probably also an exceedingly Christian man).
girl, blink twice if you need help.
-
See now, that's what is so wrong about the European coffee experience. All you've got is espresso or espresso with water. Espresso is fine if you're in the mood for espresso, but Americanos are never OK, and a proper cup of coffee is something entirely different.

> It would be a shame if all the commotion just made the video go hugely viral.
Nice thought, but no: a billionaire(s) owns Google which owns YouTube which utterly controls the virality of everything, so with one word from a billionaire it can sink to the middle of rankings (not the bottom, lest that raise suspicions)

I just hope it doesn't end with husbands "beating the truth out of them."

Probably you are right. Just googled Julia Roberts and top video is a Washington Examiner story about how awful the ad is:
But, as they say, no publicity is bad publicity.
-
well, I think the point of the ad is to assure people that their selection (HOW they voted) is private. "Remember, what happens in the booth, stays in the booth."
One's party registration (if any) and WHETHER one voted or not (yes/no, you voted or not) is indeed public record, easily searchable and accessible publicly.
Maybe the point of this ad is to counter disinfo online, suggesting that HOW one votes is public. It is not!! One's party registration and whether one voted is public, but HOW one votes is private.
I very much agree with you, about the domestic violence component. That's why I found this ad so disturbing. It's as if, the woman could be in danger of emotional or physical violence if her husband knew. I think the ad is saying, your choice is only known to others (including your MAGA husband), only IF you want it to be known and you choose to tell them. or, you can just lie if that's what you want to do. No judgement That's all true, and that's why it's a good ad.
In the US, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is:

So, just watched this and trying to figure out what they are saying. Apparently in backward MAGA land, reminding women that they have agency of their own, and can make their own choices is degrading to women. So, it seems making it clear you expect them to vote how you tell them to is respectful.

I grew up in a Christian household (albeit one of the better ones but still fundamentally flawed). I've been aware of the Biblical justifications for patriarchy and more since I was a child. Why do you suppose that I'm an atheist?

This issue is fascinating because it drives right to the heart of core conflict in this election. White men are terrified that their patriarchal privileges are being taken away from them, and they are 100% right, they are, because they are illegitimate and unfair. Women making their own choice of who to vote for precisely targets that angst, and threatens to further hasten the demise of male privilege writ large. It drives them crazy.

Well... now the ranking results have flipped-apparently. So my observation here filtered up to the top and made them change it to avoid criticism, right?

Probably their AI sucked up your comment here on Mastodon and consumed 100,000 gallons of water to make the decision to promote the video.
