"Software is eating the world" didn't seem like a threat at the time, but it sure does now.

I really love Rivian's hardware design, but their digital design is why I'll never own one. (Also the fact that I could buy two Tacomas for the price of a R1T.)

Here's what the techbros fail to understand: the joy of driving is in the physicality of it. The control. Touch and feedback is key to that feeling of power and independence.
The idealized scenario of handing your decision making ability over to a car AI is exactly the opposite of what most people who drive trucks want.
It's WILD to me that he doesn't know this.

@fraying also, in that specific instance, the likelihood they’ll be in their own familiar area is high (No one is renting a Rivian on holiday) The need to consult with the other folks you’ll be eating with to come to an agreement is important (spouse, etc). Why in the hell would I need an AI to take me to get sushi when I know where the sushi place is?
FFS techbros are so painfully dumb (and STAY being dumb) about this shit.

@octothorpe I guess when you’re in charge of the software, setting up a nearly impossible software goal is good workplace security because you’ll be working on it forever.
