My Bluesky and Mastodon follower counts are now exactly the same. Pretty weird how quickly that happened. If you told me a year ago that Bluesky would blow up like that I don’t know if I would have made that bet.

@ernie I noticed you'd accumulated a lot of followers there. Was it a viral post or two, or getting on popular starter lists? Kinda fascinating comparing this to the original twitter explosion, when SUL was the way people suddenly got lots of followers.

@ricmac A combination of things: I had a couple of semi-viral posts, and I ended up on a couple of quality starter packs. I also created a couple of my own that helped build the halo.
When Mike Masnick added me on his, that kind of made it clear it was going to start surging.

@ricmac it's a good list! One strategy that I found works well is to build an engaging thread that encourages responses (i.e. share your work) and then build the responses into a starter pack.
In terms of growth, it's a similar ground game to here except there are a few more accelerants.
