After Auspost stopped buying them, Honda re-released the postie as a CT125 with ABS brakes and EFI and LED lights, and a premium cost. Which to me defeats the purpose of the thing, but what would I know about marketing

@liamvhogan they New Beetle-d the Postie Bike
-
@liamvhogan the older ones are more desirable as you can't kill em, my postie told me. The later ones are not as reliable, of the ones Aus Post got.
-
I mean I get it, that market sector of transport has been absolutely eaten by e-bikes. That’s good.
But there’s just something to the sight of someone in thongs and board shorts getting knee-down around a wide corner at 80km/h on a postie that warms the heart
-
@liamvhogan i just googled... holy fuck they're going for 7-8 grand for 3-4yo models.
-
@nacho_borracho @liamvhogan the older ones pull even more money, they're a cult classic and very collectable.
-
@vwdasher @nacho_borracho this one in Newtown was in show and shine nick. Lovely.
-
@vwdasher @liamvhogan we still have two posties doing the rounds of our hood on them though. The rest have gone to the e-trikes
-
@nacho_borracho @liamvhogan I currently get a mix of posties. One rides a bicycle, one has a late Honda postie bike and one has the trike. The trike rider is not a fan of the trikes, as they are easily tipped, and would rather be on the old school postie bike.
-
@vwdasher @nacho_borracho @liamvhogan my understanding was the civi market for these was a niche of dudes that do "adventure riding" on them as a lol, why would they want ABS etc...?
-
@Kels_316 @nacho_borracho @liamvhogan really? How bizarre!
-
@vwdasher @nacho_borracho @liamvhogan oh yeah, its a whole thing. Cape York on a postie bike is a right of passage in that group.
-
@Kels_316 @vwdasher @nacho_borracho ‘adventure ride on a postie’ imo is ‘home from the pub, half cut, unlicensed’
-
@liamvhogan @vwdasher @nacho_borracho thats the e-bike niche now
-
@Kels_316 @vwdasher @nacho_borracho yep. Also e-bikes fill the ‘flogged to shit workhorse that will last as long as rego compliance is economical and no longer’ of delivery riders and that’s the association I have with posties
-
-
The difference between a postie bike and the average e-bike is that on the CT110 you have a back-upright, elbows-out, knees aside riding stance, like the Buddha tear-arsing at 40km/h, and that’s a form of transcendent serenity no e-bike has yet managed
-
@liamvhogan they are heavy as anything too
-

@liamvhogan the delivery e-bikes that I see have riders using that stance though
-
@liamvhogan what have I missed out!?

@Kels_316 @vwdasher @nacho_borracho @liamvhogan considered joining one of postie bike challenges back in the day but preferred my YZF600. Had a few friends do the trek to Alice Springs on postie bikes in early 2000s. Here’s a collection of postie bike challenges that show some of the fun and games https://traveloutbackaustralia.com/5-awesome-outback-postie-bike-adventures.html/
