Do not ever expect that someone will risk their job or risk jail for you. They won't, regardless of how unjust it is. They might bend, but they will not break.

When our son had his top surgery scheduled (after 5 years and as many recommending doctors) and the state law changed to prohibit it, no one stood up and said, "We got you." They just cancelled the surgery and didn't even let him know.
