If you ever wondered “what if they made a version of DIE HARD set at a ski resort in Vermont, with Sean Astin in the Bruce Willis role and Bruce Campbell in the Alan Rickman role, and with a budget of eight dollars,” you will be pleased to learn that RiffTrax has put their riffed version of ICEBREAKER (2000) up for free viewing on YouTube
-
It’s a movie that gives you a real strong vibe of “the cast agreed to do this because it meant a paid ski vacation”
-
ICEBREAKER was a production of Vermont-based director David Giancola, whose other work includes TIME CHASERS (1993), a movie that was mocked on the original MST3K. I hope at some point they sent him an Edible Arrangement
-
@jalefkowit There was something weirdly earnest about Time Chasers. The people who made it really wanted to tell a serious science-fiction story, and they scraped by with whatever resources they had.
-
@jalefkowit N. B. that I did not say those resources included talent.
But, I mean, it's still endearing.
-
@bstacey As a former community theater person, I admire that. I never let my lack of talent stop me either
Giancola’s still at it, and good on him!
-
@bstacey @jalefkowit I also like Time Chasers. Unlike some low-budget #MST3K movies that just trap all the characters in two rooms, it has a lot of ambition, many settings, and some great mockable characters.
Plus I love the glimpse of a #Commodore 1541 floppy drive that we get at one point.
-
@jalefkowit I don't know if you've ever seen or heard of the BBC show Death in Paradise, but it's a murder mystery show set on a Caribbean island and I think they get a better calibre of actor involved than the writing deserves, mainly because it involves being on a Carribbean island...
-
@akuchling @bstacey Yeah, its biggest sin is that its reach exceeds its grasp. Which in the taxonomy of creative sins is pretty minor.
-
@Scmbradley Reminds me of this
-
@jalefkowit Bruce is absolutely bringing it though,
-
@overholt The man’s a pro!
-
@akuchling @bstacey ICEBREAKER is kind of the same. It very clearly wants to be DIE HARD, and this time they even got some real name actors to fill the starring roles. But it just can't quite get there.
Still, they tried!
