Remembering the time I interviewed for a job at a Leading Govtech Office, and I went back and forth on how I should dress for the interview because tech job interviews called for jeans but government job interviews still called for a suit, and I asked my contact there how I should dress for the interview and they helpfully said "oh, however you think is appropriate," so I decided to play it cautious and wear a suit, and the reaction I got when I walked into the room full of people in jeans instantly told me I wasn't going to get the job

There is only one appropriate thing to wear to a job interview in the 2020s. I will not be taking questions at this time

@jalefkowit I think your contact had it in for you. How hard would it be to just say "everyone here wears jeans"?

@sennoma Sometimes it takes an enormous lift to get people to do even the smallest kindness

Of course they made me do a bunch of whiteboard exercises in programming languages I don't normally work with anyway, because if you've got a fish on the hook why not make it flap around a little
