KDE Connect is such an unsung hero. The one bit of technology that pulls my entire digital life together. I don't know what I would do without it.
I maintain that the developers would do themselves a huge favor by just changing the name. "KDE Connect" makes it sound like it's only for KDE, but it's not. I use it on GNOME. I use it on Windows. I use it on iOS. I don't use KDE anywhere! But I use KDE Connect every day.
I'm sure the KDE folks are proud of Connect. And they should be! But calling it "KDE" undersells it. It's more than that. And the name doesn't make that clear.

@jalefkowit oh wow - I had KDE before, and really liked connect (although the rest of the distro was kinda buggy on my system back then). Didn't know it worked on other DEs/Distros!

@rateexportpilot Oh yeah. You generally need to find a native implementation on other platforms, but they're not hard to find -- KDE provides native implementations for both Windows and iOS (both are in their respective app stores), and on GNOME there's GSConnect.

Kind of an "akshuallly" point, but part of the problem is that people misunderstand the fact that KDE refers to the community at large, and not only for the desktop itself.

@RL_Dane But my point is that this software is relevant outside the KDE community. I'm not in the KDE community, but I use it all the time.
If someone can use Connect to hook up a Windows desktop to an iOS phone, it's useful for them even if they've never heard of KDE. So naming it in a way that indicates it's only of interest to KDE people (which, yeah, the distinction here between the DE and the community around the DE is a bit pedantic) undersells it.
