Excellent piece by @emptywheel today on how, while politics played a roll, losing the propaganda war was a more instrumental factor in losing this election:
Two Elections: "The rules were that you guys werenβt going to fact-check" - emptywheel
There were two elections last week. A traditional political one, in which Democrats had some down ballot successes. And a far bigger propaganda one, in which Trump -- but not always the rest of his party -- had tremendous success.

We need to understand how these two things are interrelated and that until we wrest control of our media from the corporations and billionaires or we are destined to repeat these defeats.

@mastodonmigration @emptywheel I wonder, though, why it's not showing up on Mastodon itself. Thanks for posting the link.

Yeah, that's a real source of frustration with her. She is very sporadic here on the one network that best exemplifies the principles she espouses.

Many people who have announced on Twitter that they are leaving twitter have said they're going to bluesky and threads, including people who have accounts here that they post to. They have explicitly encouraged others to follow them to Bluesky.None of them even mention Mastodon. This includes emptywheel and Taniel and Thomas Zimmer, among others.
I suspect some of the bigger accounts here will eventually follow.

Bluesky is corporate. Owned by VCs. It is not a safe haven.
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."
It's a honey trap.

And in addition maybe accept that many Americans are infantalised.

Attached: 1 image So its true that there was no election fraud in the US, they have to face that it was mass indoctrination of 'adult' minors. "On November 6, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Director Jen Easterly said that election officials are still counting votes & reported no incidents of compromised election security" Importantly, we have no evidence of any malicious activity that had a material impact on the security or integrity of our election infrastructure.β https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/11/9/fact-check-did-20-million-democratic-votes-disappear

Absolutely, and therefore even more susceptible to propaganda.

@mastodonmigration @kims @sspopovich That. I just do not understand people. First I got burned out by Facebook after 2016, then Twitter when that snake took over, then Reddit when it became fullfledged corporate. They all are owned by toxic fascism-loving techbros.
I sigh every time I hear from great and talented content creators, that they are fed up with the corporate toxic BS.
And then announce they go to Threads or Bluesky.MF why...
I know why. It's their business model. Here they won't reach their target and major audience like they do on big business platforms.
It's so disheartening. -

@McWabbit @mastodonmigration @kims @sspopovich its pretty much a given that most people donβt know or care if mastodon exists. They perceive what is put in front of them in Threads or X as reality. People who want to make a buck take advantage of such captive audiences.
The problem is that none of these people own the platform or can influence their visibility.
I have a feeling in the years to come, truth and facts are going to be rare. -

@McWabbit @mastodonmigration @kims @sspopovich but the MOST frustrating thing is they refuse to bring their fanbases with them and try because I believe these platforms would be more profitable than the corporate timelines because their fans/followers would control what they want to se most.
-
@McWabbit @mastodonmigration @kims @sspopovich in the end, for many people these platforms are their business model. They monetize their presence there and fear that an open de-centralized platform is not profitable enough.

And thus are we lost before even leaving the starting gate.

@McWabbit @mastodonmigration @kims @sspopovich I'm tuning out most people that don't practice what they preach at this point. I am out of patience.
If folks want to shout down with corporate media and then spend all their time on Bluesky or Threads, I don't know what to tell you.
We'll build our own thriving ecosystem, right here, right now. It only takes a few people to light the spark that kindles.
