But in many ways it's not
Wikipedia has articles for specific topics folks find interesting and useful. OSM is just a map of everything at one place. If Wikipedia just had one article with everything in it, that wouldn't be too useful, or inviting to contribute to
I'd love to see a real "Wikipedia for (custom) maps"

If @wikimediafoundation is looking for something new to add to their already huge family of services, this is my suggestion: #Wikimaps
A place where everyone can collaborate on any kind of map centered around any topic they find interesting.
Like: Public art (of a specific kind or by a specific artist), drinking water fountains, beautiful bike routes, edible plants in public spaces, spots with great views, shops/businesses of a specific kind, etc.

@forteller @wikimediafoundation @openstreetmap how would your idea differ from MapComplete?

@Neblib Thanks for mentioning @MapComplete! I was aware of it, but hadn't looked too closely at it, before. I appreciate what they do a lot! But I'm unsure if it fits the bill. Most of what I find on their website seems to indicate that all it can show are data that is on OSM. If it doesn't fit there, you can't make a MC map for it, it seems? Though I'm not 100% sure, since they do have a climbing_opportunity map, a tag I can't find on OSM? But I don't understand how to edit maps there directly.
