Unsurprisingly, the post I made about how Mastodon's reply culture is unique among the social media sites that I post to got a bunch of "Are you sure about that?" replies.

Luv2b inundated with reply guys telling me how to do my job and explaining my own social media experience to me! Extra points if they're talking about things that I am expert in and they are not, including being a woman on the internet who talks about tech issues with a large number of followers on a social media platform.

Rebecca Solnit all over again, having an idiot male explain her book to her. He didn’t realize she was the author and she kept telling him “I am the author and that is not what that means” but he could not listen or hear.

@MelodyWainscott @evacide Totally! Just in case any of my fellow dudes need a diagram:

@evacide There are a lot of repeat offenders in your threads too. I know this because I proactively block them but still see the artifacts of their presence (people replying to those reply guys).

@puppygirlhornypost2 They also do this because being contrarians on the internet is the only way they can get attention from women. Don’t give it to them.

Just asking questions
Just asking questions (also known as JAQing off, or as emojis: "🤔🤔🤔"[1]) is a way of attempting to make wild accusations acceptable (and hopefully not legally actionable) by framing them as questions rather than statements. It shifts the burden of proof to one's opponent; rather than laboriously having to prove that all politicians are reptoid scum, one can pull out one single odd piece of evidence and force the opponent to explain why the evidence is wrong.
