I understand why people are looking so hard for reasons and root causes to explain the election we just had. But it seems like a waste of energy at this point.
There wasn't cheating or trickery on any meaningful scale. Trump's voters know who and what he is. As a country, we walked calmly and with our eyes wide open directly into white supremacist neo-feudalism. We did it because some people actually wanted that, and our political process was unable to provide an appealing alternative.
-
@[email protected] yeah I find it a waste of time to focus on the ~15-20 million voters lost between Biden and Harris. What about the 71 million red voters?
-
@puppygirlhornypost2 To the extent I have a point, I think it's exactly the opposite one. The 80-90 million people who didn't vote are the ones we should focus on. That includes, but is extremely not limited to, the 15 million who voted for Biden but not Harris. But we should do it in a forward looking way. Looking back is pointless. We don't live in that world any more.

@jenniferplusplus That's actually the most horrifying thing about it -- that so many Americans are ignorant, apathetic, or simply terrible humans. What do you even do with that?
-
@CatDad For one, stop pretending people are ignorant. They really did know what the situation was.
So, face the reality that some people are white and/or christian supremacists, and all that entails. And some other people don't consider white supremacy to be a deal breaker, and will go along with the group.
Then, give the people you call apathetic something to care about.
-
@jenniferplusplus @puppygirlhornypost2 She could have had Bernie Sanders’ policy platform and it wouldn’t have mattered because a lot of this country - a majority of white people and white-aspiring men - would rather light themselves on fire than put a black woman in the Presidency

@MisuseCase @puppygirlhornypost2
I get you're upset, but you have to actually understand your situation if you want to change it.There are 2x as many people who did not vote for trump as people who did. The path to a better future is to start addressing the wants and needs of those people.

I don’t see the contradiction between “Misogynoir is a powerful force we have to reckon with honestly” and “It’s crucial to truly understand the human beings who don’t vote, or who didn’t vote this time.” Those seem very much complementary and essential thoughts to hold onto. -

Basically, a bunch of people were given this choice, and chose option three. If you're getting caught up on all the people who chose the worse option, you're missing that there is no option three. Whatever chance there is for the better future you wanted is only going to come from the vast negative space where that third option should be.
This might be the last I have to say on the election. I certainly hope so.
-
@jenniferplusplus I think I read this differently than you intended but putting more than 2 options on the table is literally possible.
Ranked choice voting enables 3+ parties because when that third one only gets 5% of the vote and is eliminated, you can still make a second choice (or third, fourth, etc). Duopolies have significant downsides according to economists. Even an oligopoly would be notably better.

@jamesb2147 I'm aware. That is one of many things that we would be wise to pursue
