Should I keep my current profile picture or switch to this more recent one?
My glasses aren't white anymore (sorry) and I've lost a little weight since my previous photo was taken 5ish years ago. Of course a few more... ahem... character lines have appeared.

@linux_mclinuxface You really expect a lot of answers here on Mastodon? I think the more up-to-date the picture is, the better, because after all, that's exactly who you are right now.
On the other hand, once I feel comfortable with a profile picture, it's hard to change. But Apple's comic filter helps a lot -

@matths so, years back, I changed a profile picture to a more up-to-date one (on another site) and got a lot of weird backlash. Now I ask.

@linux_mclinuxface A profile picture has several functions. If you are such a famous social media type, you might be afraid of losing your followers. On the other hand, if they only followed you because of your profile picture, what kind of people were they?
On the other platform, let's call them X, :P, you can make a poll and let people vote. Maybe that works here too? -

@matths it was surprising! I didn’t lose followers but I had a lot of weird questions and response like “I didn’t recognize you” and “why did change your profile, I liked you the old one”.

@linux_mclinuxface You just inspired me to update mine to something more recent.
