so, am i getting this right: Luigi Mangione is charged with terrorism, even though he targeted one person and didn’t mass shoot a whole school filled with children?

@[email protected] lessee: cops firing into a crowd, killing and injuring people, because someone hopped a turnstile over a 2.50 fare? "good job, cops being responsible"
one CEO executed without even disturbing the peace of the neighborhood without injuring a single bystander? "terrorist"

@CptSuperlative @blogdiva The genocide in Gaza cured me, since both Mandela and Gandhi were also labeled similarly.
-
@blogdiva Violently raiding the Capitol building & terrorizing every legislator in there? Not terrorism. Shooting 1 guy not, for political reasons? Well he was an important guy after all.

I learned much earlier that in Palestine people are labeled as terrorists retroactively to justify having killed them.

A lesson I kept forgetting, over and over. India labeled lots of armed opposition to its governments oppressive actions the same way.

@blogdiva I was talking to someone about this and how the entire jury selection process is basically rigged against anyone who has any sort of informed opinion about anything.
The prosecutors and judge are going to hunt down every single New Yorker that either has never heard of this guy because they live in a hole or has never had to deal with bad health insurance stuff.
And no, that’s not a lot of people, but 12 needles in a haystack of 1.7 million isn’t impossible.

@zkat @blogdiva In my most recent trip to a pool, they tried quite hard to empanel folks who wouldn’t accept that corporations are people. They had to resort to questions like “But you believe there can be good and bad corporations, right?” They never got to ask me any of those questions because when my turn came the judge looked at his notes and excused me before the lawyers could even say hello. (There had been a questionnaire in which I minced no words.)

@blogdiva The whole terror charge is going to backfire on them. Seems like an unnecessarily higher burden of proof.

@integerpoet @zkat @blogdiva this is why you gotta act like the most normie grill-pilled motherfucker on the planet when you get called
I don't want to be here, this is boring.
I don't listen to any podcasts.
I don't watch the news.
I just work and come home and play some videogames.
I think I heard about some company president getting shot or something like that, idk.
Murder is generally pretty bad, unless someone's trying to kill you... -
@rgegriff @integerpoet @blogdiva see my other comments on not really feeling like messing around with perjury charges when you can look at my social media for the past however many years and immediately tell what my position actually is.
Which I’m sure they would do with the single juror who keeps insisting on hanging the jury and is otherwise disrupting the process

@tadbithuman @lulu @CptSuperlative @blogdiva the part that gets me is they claim states can't be terrorists.
The word comes from The Terror - when the new French state guillotined people. Drone strikes, targeted assassinations, embassy killings, radiation poisoning, distributing bombs designed to go to civilian homes with their many targets... If these things aren't terrorism, the word has no use for me. -
@zkat @integerpoet @blogdiva yea, that's pretty reasonable

@thesquirrelfish @tadbithuman @CptSuperlative @blogdiva
"Terrorism" is always a political term. The powerful are entitled to be afraid while the marginalized are deemed frightening regardless of what they do and nobody cares about their fear.
And of course, when those in power feel scared, they allow themselves to retaliate to restore their feeling of safety and security which the marginalized never got to feel in the first place.
