I see there’s fish advocacy happening out there and I’m not gonna interject and try to steal their thunder by just putting it out there that nushell is also kind of amazing and also feels like much more of a modern language than zsh/bash while still being very shell
I honestly feel kinda guilty that I haven’t taken more time to master the data manipulation stuff. Even as just an interactive prompt, it’s really good?

see, now this is pretty cool? And I would have no idea where to even start with zsh/bash?

the kind of stuff you can do with plain old nushell is WILD.
This command:
- grabs a plain page from wikipedia
- finds all tables that match a certain column structure
- picks one of those tables (the first one, this page has three!)
- filters out any games that weren't released in japan
- parses the release dates and converts them into an actual datetime object
- sorts desc by those datetime objects
- saves the entire result as a properly-formatted csv, with datetime objects converted to a standard format
You can, ofc, also use
query web
to query based on css selectors, but the table selection thing is cool.
