Very nifty that once phase 1 is done it’ll change trips to LA from 45 min on the train to the airport, ~hr wait before flight, and a 75 minute flight (~3 hr in total) to 20 min on the train then 2:40 on the train (~3 hr in total) with no carbon emissions and at like half the cost of flying

@erl Having taken the Eurostar train from London to Amsterdam, I can confirm that train is a much nicer way to travel for those size journeys Plus you arrive you arrive at a train station, which *usually* isn't miles outside the city!

Or once Cappy electrification is done it’d be a 5 minute bike ride /10 minute bus + 50 minutes on Cappy down to San Jose and 2 hours on CaHSR down to LA
Or once ACE electrification is done it’d be like 15 min walk + 20 min on ACE to San Jose + 2 hours on CaHSR

@androcat yeah I think rn the law says that the route has to pull a profit, which with their projections means like $50 each way from SF->LA. For the trip I’m on rn the round trip was like $250 for the cheapest flights available (purchasing like 3 weeks in advance)

@Foritus yeah once I get down to LA today the metro route I need to take is airport -> union station then union station -> hotel. Realistically if I didn’t make the trip from the airport downtown it’d save me like another hour

Like Ca hot take is that CaHSR is one of the best things our state has done in like literally decades—functionally a jobs program for like 2 decades and then a substantial improvement in access to the state for middle class folks
