I'm sorry but I'm in no mood to hear apologists and how "A majority of people really didn't vote for trump". So does that mean a majority if people really didn't vote for Biden in the last cycle? I'm not hearing it tonight so please stop. I get a lot of you didn't want this to happen but more did..

For US folk *only*:
Imagine if a bus of 10 teenagers shows up to your house on Halloween in a sprinter van. The van knocks over your mailbox and starts doing donuts on your lawn. All 10 teens get out, and start throwing eggs and toilet paper at your house. You lean out of your bedroom window and say, "WTF! What is wrong with you kids?!"
And one of the kids is me!
️ I say, "Hey! Not cool man! Don't judge us all! I didn't even want to be here!" as I throw eggs at your window. "There are ten of us here, but only 5 of us even voted to mess up your house! I voted that we should leave you alone! But it ended up being 3 to 2 to do this, so here I am," as I throw a roll of toilet paper over the tree in your front yard. "To paint us all with the same brush, ignores the complexity of the dynamics going on in our van!" as I throw a milkshake on the rear window of your car. "Next time, be more careful with your words! You really hurt my feelings!" As I climb into the sprinter van and it peels off, flinging sod against your front door.
My personal desire to be proud of my country or to make excuses for it was never particularly strong but it was snuffed out altogether in Abu Ghraib.

@mekkaokereke interestingly enough, over on another social network, with my non-coffee account, I made a post about how all Americans made the bed they've chosen to lie in, and now have to find out what that's going to be like for the next four years, and basically, you brought this upon yourselves...
and oh my did I hear back from a lot of extreme left wing people super pissed with me. How I should have sympathy for them. How I should not laugh at their predicament. How I was a fascist too, for saying what I did.
One particular misguided type even admitted they didn't vote for Harris, but voted third party (in Oregon), and how dare I say their vote counted towards Trump's win.
Right now, Americans have only one option: they need to stand up and fight. By "fight" I mean follow MLK's modus and forcefully but peacefully protest. Non violent protests. Mass strikes. Mass disruptions. Circus Clown's limo driving through town? Get 10,000 people to stage a sit in and block the route. Stage sit ins at congresspeople and senator offices. En masse.
Rage posting on social media? As Cocaine Jr. likes to say: "that's a nothingburger".

Yeah, there's a thin line between "All you US folk deserve what's about to happen to you!" which is bad, and not what you said, and "Look, if I say 'what the heck US people?' I'm not trying to hear "Not all Americans," right now. Nuance, which is tough on social media.
Similar scenario to me saying that a Texas citizen shouldn't commit border patrol crimes against kids. It's on the US to put a stop to that injustice. But if someone laughs at Texans losing power in a dangerous cold snap with "You deserve whatever happens to you!" I disagree with that violent and hateful framing, because Texas voter suppression is significant.
But yeah, I'm not "Not all US voters!" -ing Canadian friends right now. People are pissed. Real people are going to get hurt by this economic fallout.
Even when we get past this to the other side, there's going to be an ongoing performance drag on US Canada trade, as Canadian companies wisely hedge. You can't trust Dr Jekyll, once you've met Mr Hyde.

@mekkaokereke I think Trump and his cronies have severely underestimated what Canada AND Mexico will do here. I can't speak for Mexico, but I know as a nation, everyone up here is beyond pissed right now.
Trump saw Colombia cave within hours, and figured we'd do something similar. That's not our game at all.
Speaking of games, the US national anthem was loudly booed at the Ottawa Senators / Minn. NHL game today. I've attended literally 100s of sporting events in Canada against US teams and teams from other countries. Not once in my life did I ever hear a single boo at a foreign anthem. This is unprecedented. And those folks aren't liberal lefties; those folks are pretty right wing, Trudeau hating types. That's a tell.
I think Canada will roll up its collective sleeves, get through 6-9 months of economic hardships and a lack of certain products, but in that time, will find new global partnerships to embrace, new trading partners for our natural resources and manufactured goods, and new partners to buy from. And we'll be much stronger for it.
The USA, in the meantime, will continue to weaken under Trump because no rational country will want to enter into any kind of trade agreement with you folks as long as he's your leader. He cannot be trusted, and he's proven it, time and time again.

@flowerpot
May I humbly suggest that you read just a bit of history? From Hawaii in the late 19th Century, Navassa, Cuba, the Philippines, the Boxer Rebellion in China, Panama, Korea, Vietnam, the Contras, Afghanistan... And of course the colonial wars of dispossession that started the whole thing. Nothing at all changed in Iraq, you've NEVER been the good guys.

Minor nit: Colombia did not cave.
️
Biden actually did more deportations per day than Trump did.
Because when people believe that only dangerous criminals get deported, they tend to be more willing to help ICE. But when people feel that all Black and brown people are being targeted, more people are understandably non-cooperative with ICE, and civilians share information with each other about the limitations of non-judicial ICE warrants. And undocumented people become more cautious in their movements. So both the number of daily deportations went down, and the percent of criminals deported went down with this latest stunt.
️
Under Biden, non-criminals that were deported were transported on civilian planes, with dignity. Colombia's only issue with Trump's deportations, was that civilians were put on military planes in handcuffs and paraded on TV as if they were criminals. Colombia said "No, that's not going to happen. Do it the normal way. If you claim that you don't have a plane, let us know and we will send our own plane." We said "Tariffs!" Colombia called our bluff. The flights soon resumed, but under Colombia's rules.
We folded, not Colombia.

@coffeegeek @mekkaokereke Wish it was entirelly true, but the curent president of the European Union wish us to keep our comercial exchanges with the U.S., and witout reciprocating their tarifs.
Most countries of Europes disagree, but might not have a choice in the matter. -

That's assuming Poilievre won't roll over as soon as he's in office... -
@coffeegeek @mekkaokereke Ford and Polli have a true compatriot. You think Trudeau is a shoe in next election?
@fletch @mekkaokereke I will say that the Ontario Premier Ford is fully on board with battling against the United States and Trump on this matter. He is definitely a hawk when it comes to this. I don't agree with a lot of his politics, but in this regard he is fully on board, and I welcome his involvement.
