The man in the White House announced Monday that God had placed him there, though he avoided placing his hand on the bible as he swore an oath.

@wdlindsy You mean, this church, and this bishop - where protesters were tear gassed?
Peaceful Protesters Tear-Gassed To Clear Way For Trump Church Photo-Op
After U.S. Park Police and National Guard troops pushed demonstrators out of Lafayette Park, President Trump walked from the White House to St. John's Church where he posed for pictures with a Bible.

@wdlindsy I'm not a believer, but I have respect for the peaceful people who are. But someone must tell them Trump is not a believer in anything but money and power.
Trump is the guy from the movies who is holding a gun on the person hiding his share of the bank robbery loot, promising he'll spare the guy if he tells him where the hidden money is, then as soon as he finds out, he shoots the guy for fun.
Trump is not a Christian. He's not even a bad Christian. But if he were, he'd be Satan.

@flyhigh @GreenRoc Choose, if you will, to scoff at what this person said because she believes in God.
A lot of us do not have the luxury of that kind of purism and scoffing, and we welcome her statements and her reference to her sincere faith grounding those statements β and we recognize that we need to band together in the face of an extraordinary threat and not attack each other,.

@PattyHanson I'm not entirely sure who you mean by "them" β Trump supporters, I'm deducing? If so, I sincerely doubt that telling them anything at all will do more than fall on deaf ears. Perhaps down the road they'll see and admit responsibility for what their idolatry has produced, but right now, I think they're impervious to reason, appeals to humanity, or anything of that sort.

@iamlayer8 To me as one of those in the sights of the oppression now being unleashed in my country, it sounds like welcome support for me and others on the margins. I'm not inclined to draw purist lines and divide up the community of those trying to resist on the basis of those purist lines.

@SailorDisco Interesting that the bishop links her God to mercy and not smiting enemies, isn't it? That in itself is a courageous act in a culture in which anti-religionists link willingly with Trump and his supporters to pretend that the God proclaimed by Jewish and Christian faith is about mercy.

@CatHerder @darwinwoodka Oppressed groups have long taught us that laughter is a premier tool in undercutting the power and arrogance of tyrants, haven't they?
-
@solownh Indeed, Hitler being a prime example of that.

@Kirsty Thank you for letting me know it's worthwhile.

@Kirsty Yes, I thought the same as I watch. To me, Vance's affect is the affect of a dangerously angry and potentially violent man. Trump is silly enough to think that he can slew his eyes and turn his head and show male contempt for powerful female words β but we'll see what the future holds for him.

@Seanochicago Meanwhile, as Allison Walker reports, the White House Spanish-language website was yanked down the day the man was inaugurated.

"It took the courage of one woman to change the conversation around Donald Trump."
~ Melissa Ryan
And to those coming to this thread to scoff and laugh because this courageous woman speaks out of her religious conviction, let me say one thing:
We see you. We see how you amplify Trump by laughing at the courage of a woman speaking up against him.
And we won't forget.
