Charles Pierce notes that a massive recall of ground beef was issued Friday due to E. coli outbreak. Also: Sunday, CDC announced that one person has died and three dozen others have been sickened due to E. coli infections from carrots sold by major grocery chains. Between May and September, ten people died and 61 were sickened in 19 states due to listeria-contaminated Boar's Head deli products.

And now along come Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mehmet Oz, Joseph Lapado as Trump's public-health wrecking balls, and what's going to happen to the controls we count on to try to keep us healthy, to keep us from encountering dangerous food peddled by people caring about profit and not our health?
The future looks dark, indeed, for anyone with eyes to see.

@wdlindsy Irradiated food would be safer but we have a combined superstition about radiation and NIMBY problems building the infrastructure here in the US.
We can't replace normal food safety with *nothing* but that's clearly the direction we're headed.

@gooba42 Yes, we're susceptible to some stunning bizarre ideas in the US, when it comes to food and health. The pandemic and the alacrity with which many of us gobbled up misinformation has only opened the door wider to all of this nonsense.
