"Trump’s demand for recess appointments is a way of breaking the Senate early on. Once they’ve bypassed the Constitutional dictate that they confirm the president’s appointees, there is no standing on principle to insist on strict adherence to the Constitution."

"Let’s not make the mistake of thinking the only reason Trump wants to use recess appointments is to get his team of deplorables confirmed. He’s not even back in office, but he’s already at work manipulating elected officials into a position where the Constitution can be tossed aside at will."

"Kennedy has devoted his life to destroying public health. He’s obsessed with a confused, quasi-fascist idea of purity, which leads him to attack medical interventions like fluoride, pasteurization, and vaccines, as well as perceived outsiders like Asians and Jewish people. That makes him a good fit for Trump and Trumpism. It also makes him a massive danger to the US and to the world."

/3RFK Jr. is a massive public health threat
Dems like Jared Polis shouldn't pretend otherwise.

If RFKjr's diet is so great, why does he look like a purse? -

@wdlindsy purity... you mean he is a fan of this "survival of the fittest", like the Nazis?

@Dodo_sipping I think that's what Berlatsky is saying, that these racial purity ideas echo Nazi ones.

@sasyecat I wondered about his diet when I saw the photo of him and Trump's team and son chowing down on McDonald's fast food a day or so ago.

@wdlindsy all these "pure" "master race" dudes look so... inbred and fucked up.

@wdlindsy I read her newsletter this morning, and this is part of what terrifies me. They let him get away with this, and the Constitution is dead. I'm not sure how we recover from it.

@wdlindsy I forget now, was the code to recall the B52s in "Dr. Strangelove" Purity of Essence or Essence of Purity? As an aside, Dr. Strangelove was an absurdist parody in it's time, but now it just seems like a plausible alternative timeline.

@Cliftographer I can't tell you, unfortunately. If I saw that film, I've long since forgotten it.

@CharJTF I think we are entering into a very dark era in our history, and I wonder if we'll emerge from that tunnel anytime soon if ever.

@camerondotca Don't they, though? Master race, indeed.

@wdlindsy I agree...it's going to be brutal.
I'm not sure many of us will survive. I can't afford to go back to health insurance costing $2500 a month (pre-existing conditions and now I have more). Kid is expecting twins in May...they'll need mandated vaccines. Meds will cost more. Prices of most staples are going to go up.
And, of course, the incoming administration is going to shred the Constitution. While the Rs watch and cheer.

@CharJTF I'm trying not to anticipate the worst though also aware that the worst very well may happen. I think survival may be a matter of building strong ties with networks of like-minded people, being vigilant and having foresight to prepare. But I also think that things can get very bad very quickly when — as they promise — they begin implementing their cruel agenda, crashing the economy, gutting government, placing the military under control of the president, and so on.

@wdlindsy Yeah, someone told me last week not to anticipate bad stuff. It's a bit difficult, though.
It will be tough but, as long as we don't lose the house, I think we'll be OK. It's the cruelness that's coming that's a concern, especially with my transplant/cancer diagnosis, hubby's and my ages, and babies coming next year.
