I just posted this valuable statement by Noah Berlatsky on Facebook, and Facebook immediately took down the posting:
"It may not be safe to remain friends with MAGA. Trump voters have told you they will hurt you. It’s reasonable to believe them. …
I’m not saying everyone in every case has to cut their MAGA family out of their life. Different people are in different circumstances; you can’t make blanket rules."

/1It May Not Be Safe to Remain Friends With MAGA
Trump voters have told you they will hurt you. It’s reasonable to believe them.

"But what I am saying is that, if you have MAGA relatives or friends, you need to evaluate your relationship not just on the basis of the ugly choice they made in the past, but on the basis of what that ugly choice says about what they might do to you in the future."

A well, that fits. Beginning toadying up to the new emperor. Some (like Bezos) were earlier, now the rest follows.

@wdlindsy It absolutely positively is NOT safe to be friends with MAGAts.
It's also not safe not to.

@phaedral I suspect a lot of us have become skilled at dealing with family dynamics that force us to recognize being in close contact with some family members is toxic and dangerous.

@glitzersachen Yes, precisely. That's just what we can see happening now.

@wdlindsy
My Friend, More than once I see your words of Wisdom as my own
MAGATS are the enemy
This is "D" day, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Pearl Harbor all rolled into one
No Pacific or Atlantic Oceans to protect US
This Invasion was silent & deadly
Beginning years in advance a slow and effective Fascist Nazi element in our Political Body eating away like CANCER
They are here, your neighbors, the police, the military, the Senators Representatives & The Presidency
They didn't listen, Drank the Koolaid ! -

@wdlindsy The one and only reason I remain on FB is to stay in touch with my relatives and friends who use it exclusively. But that may no longer be a good enough reason for me to maintain a presence there. Hmmm.

@wdlindsy Enabling abusers is not a good idea. Letting Nazi's off the hook for being Nazi is enabling abusers.
We're not just talking about drunk uncle at Thanksgiving dinner. We're talking actual jack-booted thugs coming for dissidents, intellectuals. We're not talking about differences of opinion by people who share values. We're talking about protecting ourselves from folks who were just find with the gas chambers.
Maybe you don't smell Dachau in the air. I do.

@phaedral I havce no idea why you'd conclude I'm not aware of the dangers now facing me as an openly gay man married to another man, who has been very free about sharing information and commentary on social media that would place me in the category of a political dissident in a fascist regime.

@starlily Thanks for letting me know. So they're either targeting Noah Berlatsky or there's obviously something in what he's saying that they don't want to have said on Facebook.

@wdlindsy Maybe I misunderstood your post.

William Lindsey :toad:replied to Joseph Meyer last edited by
@JosephMeyer Yes, the same for me. It's one of the few ways I can keep in immediate touch with a wide circle of family and friends, and I also lead a group discussing DNA and genealogy that's based there. I continue having a presence there knowing full well, though, that it's a toxic place in many ways, due to who owns it and why they operate that site.

@Arqtec Thank you.

I have friends and family who I will be more likely to avoid because of the stink and stench they smeared upon themselves by cozying up to to iMAGA.

@wdlindsy good piece until the very end, where he complains about people dropping substack subscriptions. He should consider migrating off substack
That's of course not on you. Thanks for sharing, it's accurate and cogently phrased.
