It's always so easy to blame women, isn't it?

Honestly it was a harsh slap in the face for me. It took me down for a few days. I've always lived in Dem states (or at least districts) and didn't see the whole picture I guess.
The fact that all the swing states went Trumps way and he got so much of the popular vote indicates that Dems jumped ship too. That was the harsher reality for me.

@wdlindsy @SykesCharlie sorry about that, I was just reacting to the “Trump broke American journalism” quote, without having read the attached piece I reacted too fast in part because I am passionately convinced that we are not focusing enough on these damn algorithms that are the modern “opium” that is destroying our society. We should IMO just classify them as dangerous drugs and regulate them accordingly…

Mike Luckovich's commentary on what we've just seen millions of US voters choose.

@patrickco @SykesCharlie Thanks for your good response. A good term to use, I think, when it comes to how algorithms affect us: opium.

@wdlindsy I think it's clear that Trump is just going to be the figurehead. A president on paper if you will. I don't think Vance is smart enough to be the power behind the scenes. Which leaves Elon Musk. The founders would be spinning in their graves.

@TheEffekt I do think that living in different parts of the country with different histories shapes how we see these matters in very different ways. We are, unfortunately, seeing the extension of social attitudes that once were concentrated in the South (or maybe that was an illusion?) to other areas of the country, which is why, I suspect, Heather Cox Richardson wrote her book on how the South won the Civil War.

@chiraag There's concrete hurting, and there's imagined concrete hurting, due to the powerful appeal of disinformation.

I blame the White Men that are the overwhelming base of Trump's support. They have willfully ignored all evidence and data to elect their #CriminalGrandpa

@wdlindsy He's neither fluke nor is he America. He is the effect of a very successful decades long propaganda machine which dates back to the Rush Limbaugh show effectively being given away in a lot of markets (see https://www.huffpost.com/entry/limbaughs-dirty-little-se_b_185965) Arguably Trump is the result of the revocation of the Fairness Doctrine. And it didn't happen overnight, nor will any "fix" happen overnight.

@wdlindsy Yep, you are, at least you have consumed enough of the Kool-Aid to be part of the Beltway Borg. But don't worry. I have unfollowed you, so you won't have any more of my cognitive dissonance-inducing questions soiling your hermetic worldview.

@Pettet50 Yes, and over 74,000,000 Americans cast their votes for Trump. I don't think we should take our eyes away from that fact.

@todwest It's interesting, isn't it, how social media permit us to know people we have never even met and don't know in the flesh, and sum them up in neat, dismissable categories?

@wdlindsy I don't think it's productive to tell people their economic pain is imagined, though. Like, yes, there is disinformation, absolutely, and we have to combat that. But another part of it is that inflation rate decreasing doesn't mean things are any more affordable, esp if your wage hasn't kept up (but that was the Dem line). More jobs, yes, but lots of them are gig economy jobs w/no security. On and on.
Dems tend to sweep inconvenient facts under the rug.

@phaedral He's clearly the face of over 74,000,000 million of us, or why else would those 74,000,000+ choose to vote for him, knowing who he is?
