"Elon Musk’s misinformation megaphone has created a 'huge problem' for election officials in key battleground states who told CNN they’re struggling to combat the wave of falsehoods coming from the tech billionaire and spreading wildly on his X platform."

--- skewed polls and anonymous betting markets are building up Republicans’ expectations for a Trump victory,---
All those bets FOR TRUMP raising the odds falsely so that in the end, Trump and his friends vote AGAINST TRUMP and make bank on those odds

@wdlindsy I can't stop laughing at the video about Nuns accused of voter fraud

"In 10 or 20 years, when the dust has settled, we will surely look back at the whole sorry misadventure of online right-wing culture in the 2020s and wonder how and why people at the very top of society—some of America’s richest, most powerful, and most accomplished individuals—transformed themselves into vituperative culture warriors flooding our feeds with content fundamentally divorced from reality."

And we will study how it worked so well. Society has become so effectively balkanized that impenetrable information bubbles exist enabling information "fundamentally divorced from reality" to become accepted as gospel truth. One unreality can be manufactured it can then be employed to achieve the ends of the "vituperative culture warriors." In many ways it is not unlike other epochs in history where potentates prescribed belief systems to concentrate their power.

@mastodonmigration You're right: manufacture unreality with lies and propaganda, and it is then used to achieve the ends of vituperative culture warriors. Orwell is so clear on that point -- and we see it over and over again in authoritarian or fascist societies.

@FoucPerotin I agree. I left the day Musk took over. I came to Mastodon a few weeks later. I've wondered, of course, why so many people I respect remain there. It's not a decision I'd be comfortable making.
