"At a rally this evening near Green Bay, Wisconsin, Trump said his team had advised him to stop talking about how he was going to protect women by ending crime and making sure they don’t have to be 'thinking about abortion.”'

@FinalOverdrive I suspect Rebecca Solnit knows quite a bit about the history of feminism and the arguments for abolishing the institution of marriage, don't you?

@mastodonmigration Yes, it would, for sure.

William Lindsey :toad:replied to Saggy last edited by
@Itssaggy Could be. I think, too, that this is a proactive way to address the fact that, after the Supremes handed down their abominable Dobbs decision, many women are choosing to cast their votes in opposition to that decision and the party that brought it to us.

The Jessie Waters segment served as a good reminder for why lying to your husband about your vote might be a good idea.

Some of what was said in the thread (and in the MAGA community more-broadly) smacks of having no self-confidence. I was speculating that maybe some of the shittiness on display would be prevented if those people had been raised to be more self-confident. -

@the5thColumnist Who knew, indeed? What they're really saying, aren't they, is that women shouldn't vote at all, shouldn't have to worry their pretty little heads about the big matters that the man who "protect" them are there to worry about?

@Sfwmson I think the ACLU says active filing lawsuits, but the odds are stacked against anyone filing suits in states where the federal appeals court is stacked with hard-right justices. Texas is ground-zero for that.

@CatHerder Indeed. Where's the Dick and Jane reader on which I cut my teeth in grade school when we need it now? Dad goes out to work, as he should do, and Mom stays home in her Betty Crocker kitchen to keep a comfortable house for her hard-working breadwinner. And the two children are adorable and, of course, everything is all white! What's not to like?

@wdlindsy yeah. And as we talk about often, you and me...fascism.
It is an ideology that tries to drag us back while trying to murder its way forward.
It looks back on an imagined past where the grievance class thinks it had no grievances and where it, at that time, they faced no resistance.
The reality is they whined in complained at all times and at all times were resisted, particularly by POC and especially women.

@martinvermeer So well-stated and well-observed. And as we make that point, we should remind ourselves that divorce rates are highest in states controlled by white evangelicals and lowest in blue-voting states.
