Robert Kagan, who resigned from his position [as editor at large at Washington Post] on Friday after more than two decades at the publication, told the Daily Beast that Trump’s meeting with executives of Bezos’ Blue Origin space company the same day th...

"The staff at The Post is shocked and angry and demoralized. You know why. This nation is facing a decision so critical that its survival as a democracy may well be at stake. Obviously, people are confused: Otherwise, the polls would not be in a dead heat. Guidance from a trusted source could help."

"Yesterday, The Washington Post, at the direction of its owner Jeff Bezos, showed jaw-dropping institutional cowardice. It declined to support a candidate in the upcoming election which is — let’s be blunt — between good and evil. Bezos almost certainly ordered it because he was intimidated by the threats posed to his financial empire through vengeance from Donald Trump, a man who aims to dismantle the will of the people."

"This action has damaged everyone, not the least of whom are the dedicated, talented employees of The Post, whose careers are likely now diminished because, well, do they work for a great newspaper anymore? They are like homeowners whose neighborhood suddenly gets a pig slaughterhouse. All the home values are diminished."

@IAmDannyBoling Mouthpieces of money and power, it appears — with many good people working for them, but the decision-making control lies at the top with people who themselves are rich and powerful and deeply embedded in structures of affiliation to other rich and powerful people.

@jwd630 Yes, I think this craven (and immoral) decision by Bezos will definitely create a big chill for anyone who may otherwise have turned to the Washington Post to pursue valuable information and stories.

@DanaDee I agree, and I share your interest in figuring out how I can avoid Amazon — boycott Amazon — insofar as possible now. I don't want Bezos getting a penny from me if I can help it.

@MGD1616 I agree.

God forbid that Bezos and WaPo had actually endorsed Harris and then, hear me out....sway voters to vote for Harris so she can win the election and he wouldn't have to worry about the tariffs that asshole wants to impose.
I know. Weird concept.

@wdlindsy i don't buy the "intimidated"-part. Bezos is not intimidated. He's just cool with fascism and WANTS to support Trump

@dalek_fan I'm not sure the word I'd use is "able." Pretending flies in the face of so much we Americans do know about our history, if we choose to know. I think the truth is that many of us know we're not able to pretend but continue to do so anyway.

@Piousunyn Amazon in general is hard to quit. It has insinuated itself everywhere in our culture like a drug on which we become dependent.
