"The fault lies with the Times’ selfish, smug, and self-destructive leadership."

"To be specific: New York Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger and editor Joe Kahn have made it abundantly clear time and again that they prize their so-called 'journalistic independence' over any obligation to sound the alarm that electing Trump would be a disaster for the country."

"If Trump wins in part because the public was insufficiently alarmed by the press coverage of the 2024 election, the people who run the Times will have the extremely dubious distinction of having gotten Trump elected twice."

I suspect their motives have less to do with journalistic boundaries and more to do with the paper's long standing support of fascists.
They simply want a fascist state. Apparently.

I wonder if there is a connection between the investor Carlos Slim, a Mexican billionaire who also supports the right-wing catholic organization "Legion of Christ"¹.

@jk A connection between Slim and New York Times, do you mean? I haven't heard of such a connection, but there's a lot I don't know, for sure.

@troy_frizzell I think top levels of ownership and management definitely want Republican administrations to benefit those top owners and managers, to benefit them economically.

@kristen_d There's definitely blame to go around. As Froomkin says, and I think he's right, the New York Times deserves special attention because it has long touted itself as the flagship US media outlet and it has wide influence as a result.
