Death penalties certainly do reduce recidivism, but we must first convict those actually guilty. We're not so good at that.

@VulcanTourist I've seen quite a bit of evidence that death penalties don't, in fact, deter violent crime. Rather the opposite, since they enshrine violence right in the state system….

Ah, but I didn't state that it would deter crime. I said it would reduce recidivism, which by definition it must unless zombies are real.

@VulcanTourist I think most people who think about the death penalty understand that when someone has been killed by the state, that person is dead. The discussion seems to me to revolve around the question of whether the death penalty deters crime.
It doesn't.
