"In this moment, … it is clear that women have electoral and political power over more than abortion rights.

Yeah, and it still didn't help. We got Ray-gun anyway. -

@lolonurse Reagan garnered the vote of 62% of white women, and a majority of white women have continued voting Republican in almost every election cycle right through 2020. I think that unless white women break that pattern this election, we may see Trump win the White House. The big challenge is not women voters in general: it's white women voters.

Well, I'm protected from that ugly information in a couple of ways. Secular Jews tend to be Democrats. New Yorkers are mostly Democrats. Californians are mostly Democrats. College educated women tend more towards Democratic.
I have a few more layers of avoidance, in case I need them... -

@lolonurse I'm glad you're protected. It's good the nation has protected spaces. Unfortunately, a lot of us outside major urban areas on the two coasts don't have that kind of protection. We have to face the fact that many of our family members, neighbors, and friends are perfectly happy with what Trump represents. While — again, unfortunately — the media centered in those protected bubbles in one way and another promote Trump, trusting they and theirs will not be too hurt if fascism wins.

“'Age and gender are the two most dynamic factors that are explaining these numbers,' Ann Selzer said of the numbers.
I know this intuitively. I know that because I have been traveling into Iowa to speak to groups large and small for two years. I have been in small towns and big cities across the state and I know who is doing the organizing…
It’s the women."

"Here’s the thing that a lot of pollsters have been getting wrong: they don’t think abortion will be the reason that older women choose to vote for a Democrat. And I know that isn’t true. I have talked to hundreds of folks on the ground in places like Iowa. I’ve spoken to so many women.
Abortion may be seen as a political strategy to some, but it is life or death for women and girls."

Isn't that mind-boggling?! Our news/information media have almost all drifted over to the tabloid and circus circuit. -

@wdlindsy "Older" women. Like me. Remember coat hangers.
-
@wdlindsy Yes. Older woman here who had the benefit of being able to make my own decisions about reproductive care and I fear for younger women who are getting caught in this stupid cross fire argument over who gets to control them.
Older women do give a shit.

Yes. Older women do give a shit!
I've been watching the # of Mail-in Voters in SC for the past few days. Every single voter requesting a Mail-in ballot has been a Woman, over the age of 65, and Democrat. To me, that is the attitude we all need to have to get through this.
Mail-In #'s for SC as of today:

@MoralCompass @julescelt01 Thank you — encouraging news.

@julescelt01 Thank you. I keep telling myself that if my mother and her four sisters were alive today, they'd — beyond a shadow of a doubt — be casting their votes for Kamala Harris. They'd be beyond outraged at the proposal that men should tell them whom to vote for.

@mmaniac90 Yep. That's why my mother and her four sisters, raised in the white evangelical South, all of them, did not buy the nonsense that came along when white evangelicals and right-wing Catholics created their alliance first to oppose civil rights laws and then legalization of abortion. They knew better and all knew stories of women being maimed or dying from backroom abortions. If they were alive today, I have no doubt at all they'd vote for Harris.

Tim Miller has an "emergency" talk with Ann Selzer about the shocking surprise she has offered the nation with her poll finding that Iowa appears to be tilting in the direction of Kamala Harris — due, Selzer explains, to women voters and the abortion issue.

Few states are as red as Iowa, and yet the legendary Iowa pollster Ann Selzer found that Kamala has leapfrogged over Trump to take the lead there.

@wdlindsy My cousin in IA just texted me about the poll, saying she didn't think Harris would pull it off but "it's fun to think about"

"It’s been obvious to me and pretty much everyone who has a uterus what is driving the shift to Harris. But Selzer helpfully clarifies the data: 'Age and gender are the two most dynamic factors that are explaining these numbers.'”

"It never ceases to amaze me how amazed men are that women are voting for their literal freedom from a world where the government can force you to be an incubator - enduring months of daily torture and a lifetime of physical and psychological damage.
Yes we are single issue voters. The single issue is our life.
Stop being surprised that women are making this their issue.
Start being surprised that more men aren’t making it theirs."

"[Ann Selzer's poll] shocked the political world. It also reminded us that the Supreme Court’s Dobb’s decision continues to have serious electoral consequences for the party that is determined to turn women into second-class citizens."

"Iowa has one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. Beyond that, the state has been losing OB-GYNs since before Roe v Wade was overturned. And, in the wake of the decision, it’s been losing medical providers of all specialties."
