I'm sick to death of people telling me I should be on this or that social network that's controlled by some billionaire wingnuts.

@emory @briankrebs and nobody kicks these shitheads off or blocks them huh
-
@darwinwoodka @emory @briankrebs yes, everyone blocks them and they get removed. the account mentioned above is already gone.
If you're going to complain at least be honest. Bluesky does have a trust & safety team and deals with those kinds of accounts.
That account got basically no followers, was blocked by a ton of users quickly and then was banned just as quickly.

Do it!

@dangoodin @briankrebs concur. And I am going to take up the same idea, and put links to Masto posts in the blog.
-
I've been doing it a fair amount over the past 6 months. Highly recommended.
-
@dangoodin @briankrebs Do you have any tips on doing Mastodon post embeds in Wordpress? I still see so many websites that have automated tools that will take a Xitr link and plop the tweet into the article styled like a pullquote. I'd like that same functionality for these posts.
-
@threatresearch @dangoodin @briankrebs I have a script half written to generate the HTML for that, like Twitter used to. I'm thinking it is time to make it more than half written.
-
@Sempf @threatresearch @dangoodin @briankrebs You can get an embed code from a post's menu, but only if it's your own post.
You could nab the code from there to create a template. Of course, this is not user friendly for the average Joe.

Yup, us regulars here at Mulligan's getting a little tired of folks we've never met coming in and carrying on about the new shiny Rascals Brewpub, 100 craft beers on tap, down the way.

"But it's so pretty there"
I truly despise choosing things solely by technical sweetness, when obvious mechanisms like enshittification are so likely.
But I do get that mastodon has serious problems, hopefully fixed "soon".
It took me six months to really make mastodon work for me, and I was lucky enough to get on a great instance. It's rough here that way.
But "convenience" is such a consumer trap... It's the precise way in which so many things are made ruinous.
Sometimes good things require effort. I personally refuse to be part of corporate media. There are none trustworthy in 2024, and certainly there will be zero in 2025 on.

@tomjennings @briankrebs I'd love to hear from both of you what your rough patches are.
