The antidote to AI destroying the web is to strengthen human connection and to make those connections a fundamental part of the open web. Quickly.

@mike that's what we're doing in the fediverse

@[email protected] Slightly off topic but with Google abdicating it's role in search does that leave the door open for Bing? I know Bing is still the butt of many jokes and Microsoft is racing towards everything AI along with everyone else, but will someone in Redmond sense the opportunity?
-
@andresmh yes. thankfully!

@mike We really need to build all new infrastructure here… I know search historically has been a problematic topic in fedi circles, but there's got to be some possible approach here that's useful. If I'm trying to search for "how to bake lasagna", I'd much rather get some recommendations from people who are connected to people who are connected to me and are widely known for being excellent chefs…rather than whatever some search engine AI is going to spew out.

@[email protected] I think Bing is also all-in on AI. We're going to need a totally new way to discover and navigate the web that is fundamentally better than a search engine. I believe trustworthy people recommending quality content to others who share an interest will be a fundamental part of the solution.

@jaredwhite Exactly!
