Are you like, set up to get slashdotted on purpose?
-
I pay $6 for my VPS and I've weathered 1kRPS from time to time.
It's hard not to think this is kind of a skill issue.

@noracodes "my website that serves mostly static content was brought down by GET requests" will never not make me laugh
-
I think it *would* be nice to be able to opt out of link previews on one's own posts if, for instance, sharing links to lowtechmagazine or other experimental art stuff, or just for aesthetic purposes.
But y'all, for real, handling a few thousand GET requests for the same content should not be that tough.

@noracodes Eugen's boosted pictures of my cats on several occasions. a few link previews aren't shit compared to that, and i run on very low end VMs

@vyr yeah image hosting is way worse, fr

@noracodes its a skill / knowledge issue. I blame containers. I think most people today go as deep as "I installed the nginx docker I'm good".
-
@miah Yeah. It's really unfortunate, especially because we *have* the tools to deal with this stuff! nginx, Apache, whatever you want to use is going to have the tools you need for cacheing.
